The Part, Not the Window

IGU Thickness Guide: 1/2", 5/8", 3/4" and 7/8" Units

An insulated glass unit is two panes of glass sealed around a spacer — one factory-built part that lifts out of your frame. The overall thickness (OD) is what you measure: 1/2 inch is the most common residential unit, with 5/8, 3/4 and 7/8 inch on newer and larger windows. Measure the visible glass width and height to the nearest 1/16 with a tape, note the unit thickness at an open edge, and that's everything our shop needs to build the replacement.

  • 1/2" overall thickness — the standard residential double-pane unit

  • 5/8", 3/4" and 7/8" OD — newer, larger and specialty windows

  • Measure with a tape: width, height, thickness — fractions welcome

  • Grids between glass, Low-E coatings and argon matched to the original

Own-Shop Fabrication

Why One Visit Instead of a 3-5 Week Glass Order

Most glass shops and franchise outfits order your sealed unit from a third-party fabricator — that's where multi-week lead times and middleman markup come from. We fabricate insulated glass units in our own shop: double-pane, tempered and laminated panels, cut to your measurements. That's why the swap starts at $198 and a scheduled repair finishes the day we arrive — old unit out, new unit sealed into the same frame.

  • Own in-house fabrication — no middleman markup, no 3-5 week wait

  • Double-pane and tempered glass panels built to exact size

  • Your frame, sash and trim stay untouched — only the glass changes

  • 5-year warranty on every sealed unit, in writing

I had a fantastic experience with WowFix. They repaired my existing windows by cutting out rotted sashes, fashioning new ones on-site, and splicing them in. They look and work absolutely good as new!

WowFix is a great company for repairs on doors and windows. I had two rotten double-door frames that they rebuilt. They communicate well and the pricing was fair.

Insulated Glass Unit Replacement — FAQ

Before We Arrive

How to Prepare for Your WowFix Window Repair Visit

  1. 1

Photograph each problem window in daylight

Snap a clear photo of every foggy, cracked or stuck window in natural light. Morning light shows fog between the panes best and lets us quote faster — often before we arrive.

  2. 2

Note what each window is doing wrong

Jot down the symptom per window — fog between the glass, won't open or stay up, draft, cracked pane, or rotted frame. It tells us whether it's a glass-only swap (from $198) or hardware/wood work.

  3. 3

Clear about three feet in front of each window

Move furniture, blinds and décor back roughly three feet so our crew can measure and work safely. It keeps the visit quick and your things out of the way.

  4. 4

Find any window brand or paperwork

If you have the original window brand, a sticker in the frame, or install paperwork, set it aside. It's not required, but it helps us match glass and parts on the first trip.

  5. 5

Make sure we can reach the windows outside

Unlock gates, secure pets, and clear the exterior path to the windows. Most glass-unit work is done from both sides, so outside access keeps everything one visit.
