The Problem
Charlotte’s humid summers and wet winters are hard on wood windows. On this sash, the bottom rail had rotted clean through — splintered, soft, and crumbling. Left alone, rot like this spreads into the frame and eventually forces a full window replacement.
What We Did
We pulled the sash to the bench, cut out every bit of decayed wood, and spliced in fresh lumber to rebuild the rail to its original profile. After sanding, priming, and repainting, the sash went back stronger than before — matched to the rest of the window and ready for another decade. The before shows the rotted rail; the after shows the rebuilt, repainted sash. Restored, not replaced — a fraction of the cost of new.
